color film advice?

January 7th, 2009 by anonym
  • I mainly shoot black & white and havent yet wandered into the color realm except using the grocery store kodak 400 that my wife uses for general happ snapping. i want to shoot on better film because though some of the shots are great, the grain and dull colors suck! i just need to know what brand/type of film to try... and i like slower film. like wedding photos, they look really sharp and fine grain. thanks.

***im talking about print film...for slide i stick with velvia 50 baby YEAh!

  • I don't know if this is along the lines of what you need, but I like the Kodak Portra 160. I use the NC, natural color, but they do have a VC, vivid color, available. I use it for portraits and get fine grain, but like the moderate contrast as well. It is available for 35mm and 120.

  • my fav. is Kodak Portra 160/400 NC.
    but mainly I cross.process :D

  • My favorite is Fuji Superia Reala (not to be confused with plain old Superia). Very sharp, very fine grain, and good colors for an all-around film.
